Crime Victim Compensation

This service is facilitated by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. They provide reimbursement for citizens who experience medical expenses and lost wages as a result of being an innocent victim of a crime committed in the state. Victims of rape, assault, child sexual abuse, domestic violence, and drunk driving, as well as the families of homicide victims, are eligible to apply for financial help.

Victim/Offender Dialogue (VOD) 

Victim/Offender Dialogue (VOD) is a victim-centered, confidential meeting coordinated between the NC Department of Adult Correction Victim Support Services office. This voluntary meeting is between a victim/survivor and the offender who committed the crime against them, or in some cases, against the immediate family member.

NC SAVAN (North Carolina Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification)

NC SAVAN is a criminal justice information-sharing system that supports automated victim notification through the NC Department of Adult Correction. NC SAVAN operates a 24-hour toll-free automated offender information and notification service.

Notifications are provided in English and Spanish, and translation services are available in more than 100 languages relative to services provided by NC SAVAN. Once registered, users may receive offender notifications through automated telephone and e-mail notifications, or by downloading telephone applications.

Address Confidentiality Program (ACP)       

This NC Department of Justice program provides survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and stalking, and their household members with a substitute address to use as their home, school, and work addresses, instead of the actual addresses. The ACP substitute address helps prevent perpetrators from locating survivors.

The Disaster Distress Helpline, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, is a national hotline dedicated to year-round disaster crisis counseling. This 24/7 toll free crisis support service is available to residents in the United States and its territories experiencing emotional distress related to natural or human-caused disasters. 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline:

The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is a source of support available 24/7 to people in crisis, including people experiencing challenging reactions to disasters. Support is available in English or Spanish.
