Our Community

We are profoundly affected by the injustices happening every day in the world around us. We see it. We hear it. We feel it.

We are committed to supporting North Carolina’s communities of color, and we serve all victims of crime.

We see your struggles for justice.

Learning about how and what we can do better to build, support, and foster a more diverse and inclusive environment within the scope of our mission is the commitment we make to the victims/survivors we serve, including those victims/survivors further traumatized by racism and injustice.

For these reasons, we will continuously strive to be a place where all staff members, all volunteers, and all victims/survivors feel safe, feel cared for, and feel heard.

We are committed to the following principles as we seek to be an organization driven by hope for a better present and future.

Safe Environment

We will work continuously to foster a nurturing and safe environment for staff, volunteers, and victims/survivors.

Open Conversations

We will remain willing to have open and nonjudgmental conversations with staff, volunteers, and victims/survivors.

Common Thread

We will conduct ongoing evaluations and make improvements regarding NCVAN outreach and service delivery practices and NCVAN training initiatives to ensure that we are utilizing best practices to serve all victims of crime.

Collaborate with Partners

We will work collaboratively with our community partners and allied professionals in pursuit of healing and justice by means of training, consultation, and technical assistance.

We offer specialized training on victim advocacy and response.

In addition to providing training through the Victim Service Practitioner Certification Academy, we recognize the importance of providing ongoing and advanced training to practitioners actively engaged in the work.

NCVAN is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our community. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, gender, age, national origin, disability, marital status, military status, or any other legally protected status.

We believe that every individual associated with NCVAN, whether a member, volunteer, participant, or employee, is valued and respected.
